plasticbags.jpgMalaysians continue to have a torrid affair with plastic bags. We love them because they have a million different uses in and around our homes, schools, offices and workplaces. However their impact on our living space is nothing short of an environmental disaster.

We in Section 5 have seen how they clog up our drains; we’ve seen how they’re carelessly flung around by people who have no more use for them. Our dumpsites are clogged with non-degradable plastic waste causing serious pollution environmental problems.  Many local governments remain helpless in the face of the growing mountain of non-degradable plastics. Landfills, incineration and even recycling processes cannot fully address these problems and the danger of ground and air pollution is high. One company that is trying to change the way things are is LTM Bio Industries. They are committed to promoting a more sustainable lifestyle in Malaysia by encouraging people to switch to Bio-Photo Double Degradable Plastic Products:

The Technology
Biodegradable plastic that uses a starch Degrading Technology that uses starch as the bioactive material and infiltrating starch into polyethylene by adding photosensitisers (light sensitive) and photodegradable material and other environmentally friendly composites. This makes the high performance biodegradable plastic mother pellets which consist of up to 70% starch.

The degradation process

  • Bacterial Degradation
  • Degrading or decaying process by bacteria
  • Photo-UV Degradation
  • Degrading or decaying via sunlight coupled with oxidation process
  • 60 days 90days 120 days

Features & advantages of bio-photo double degradable plastics

  • Bacterial Degradation, Photo-Oxidation & Photo-UV Degradation.
  • Acts as an excellent compost material.
  • Tapioca Starch is a renewable resources.
  • Naturally Non-Static and excellent for packing material.
  • Uses no ChloroFluoroCarbons (CFC) as blowing a agent unlike many synthetic oil-based polyfoam production processes.
  • Safe when comes into contact with food (in compliance with Food Act 1983 & Food Regulations 1985).
  • Does not require natural energy for incineration thus not creating haze, smog and acid rain.
  • Competitive prices & cost savingsA way to breathe easy
The production of biodegradable plastics can improve our environment only if local governments demand that people use these instead of conventional plastic materials. The invention of products such as the triple degradable resin offers hope for all of us. The fact that conventional plastics come from non-renewable petroleum resources is already a great reason for us to make the switch. Add to that the huge cost to health and taxpayers caused by the indiscriminate disposal of plastics waste and our dependency on waste recycling we should give companies like LTM BIO INDUSTRIES SDN BHD
and their MIDORI products a chance.
